Incoming Freshman/Player? Here's everything you need to know.

2021-2022 RHS Freshman Team

Do you plan on trying out for RHS Volleyball this season? If so, this blog is for you!


The volleyball season will be here before you know it! Please be sure to read all the information below so you stay up to date on upcoming events, general expectations, and player policies so you know what to expect if you should make a team this fall.

Important Dates for the 2022-2023 Season:

Summer Conditioning begins 6/20/2022

  • Once you register, you will be emailed payment information. It will show you as unpaid due to Coach Nick taking payments through his payment merchant account and due to us not being able to handle payments through the website. This is normal, please email Coach Ferrante if you need confirmation.

  • Please be advised, that the email goes to the person registering so players may need to forward the payment information to parents. ​




Summer League begins the first week of July (EXPERIENCED PLAYERS ONLY)

  • Summer League is now full


Gator Camp: 8/1/2022-8/5/2022 - This event is almost full. Be sure to register while still available.

  • AM Session - 3rd through 9th Graders​

  • PM Session - Incoming Freshman Only

    • ADD On Camp: Incoming Freshman Players must attend both the AM & PM Session




2022-2023 Tryouts: begins on August 10th. All documentation must be completed by Monday, August 1, 2022.


  • ALL PLAYERS MUST be sure to have registered through Howard County Public School's Canvas Connect Portal. The directions can be on RHS Athletic Online Registration website. All documentation uploaded and completed by Monday, August 1, 2022.

    • Important note for Physical Forms: Please, make sure Physicals have all signatures (Parent/Guardian, Athlete, and Physician) before scanning and uploading. Reminder Physicals for Athletics are different from those used to register to attend school. The Athletic Physical includes a Clearance without restrictions by Medical Staff.

Important Tryout Information:

  • Begins on Wednesday, August 10th through August 12th

  • All paperwork must be submitted through Reservoir High School Website by 8/1/2022

  • Doors open at 7:00 AM; be there no later than 7:30 AM.

  • Everyone is to meet by the school's tennis courts to check in.

  • Players arriving late will be sent home. NO EXCEPTIONS.

What to Expect after Tryouts:

  • Those who have made the team, we will move directly into practice. It is vital you DO NOT go on vacation after August 10th. We practice every day during the week and on Saturdays until school starts, and we will need all players to be in attendance.

  • The first practice will be held on August 13th, with player's team bonding event happening immediately after practice.

  • Post tryouts Coaches will give all players and parents more information about practices and what will be expected of athletes once school starts.

  • ALL CORRESPONDENCE from coaches will be through GroupMe chats ONLY. Make sure you pay attention to those messages to stay in the know.

 

Player Policies

General Expectations:

  • Family/School/Volleyball

  • There are three teams a player can make, Freshman, JV, and Varsity,

  • Practices – Please do not schedule ANY appointments during practice times

  • Sportsmanship (players and parents)

  • Study Hall/Grades

  • Participation in fundraisers and team functions

  • RHS Players will be featured on RHS Volleyball gameday online streaming, website, email marketing, photography site, ad promotions, and more.

Team Rules:

  • Vaping/Smoking and inappropriate social media comments/posts (comments about teammates, coaches, opponents, etc)

  • Cause for IMMEDIATE REMOVAL from team

Communication (GroupMe):

  • The team uses GroupMe for all communication. Please be sure to email Coach Ferrante for more info.

Fundraisers:

  • SNOWBALLS

  • Team Book/Ad Sales (See the Volleyball Booklet for more information)

Concessions:

  • All families are expected to work at least two home games. We will be using Sign Up Genius to ensure all spots are filled

  • JV families will work Freshman games

  • Varsity families will work JV games

  • Freshman families will work Varsity games

Spiritwear/Team Gear

  • Players will purchase “team gear” packages at the Player/Parent Mandatory Meeting. Everything you need, except shoes will be provided in these packages.

Attendance:

  • All coaches are required to maintain attendance logs at RHS

  • Team members should attend all practices, games, meetings, etc. throughout the season

  • Please note that there may be some last-minute events that you will be expected to attend

  • Requests for absences should be communicated to your coach prior to the date of the absence, preferably one week prior but no later than 24 hours prior with the exception of illnesses

  • Excused absences include “critical emergencies” (illnesses, funerals, etc.) or “essential academic” (Choir concert, academic test, etc.) activities only

  • Unexcused absences include things like family vacation, working non-communicated medical appointments, non-essential school activities, babysitting, other independent league sports, etc

  • Provide a doctor note for multiple days missed

  • Athletes should plan on attending all practices and games.

  • School day practice schedule as follows:

    • JV/Varsity Practices – M-F (3:00-5:00 PM), Saturday (9-11AM)

    • Freshman Practices – M-F (2:30-4:30 PM)

  • Team Policy:

    • Missed Practice or Game – Player does not start in the next game.

    • If you are tardy (unexcused) to school or a class, you can NOT participate in that day’s activities (game or practice)

Playing Time:

  • Freshmen – Since the team is a developmental program, all players will play in games throughout the season. The coaching staff will determine the amount of playing time each player will receive

  • JV/Varsity – Playing time is determined by the coaching staff. Playing time is not guaranteed to any player
